‘Hurricane Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike’

Statement

This body of work is based on data from the daily weather page in the newspaper, hurricane tracking information on the internet and the purchase and results of buying Lotto, Powerball and Pick 4 tickets. I have lived in three very different climates, the Midwest, the Northwest and for the past 20 years in New Orleans. Perhaps this has influenced my interest in weather, and certainly living in this city has made keeping an eye on hurricanes part of my yearly experience.

All of the materials that I’ve used are ordinary everyday materials we all have access to: plastic fencing, beads, wires, screening, yarns, ribbons, cords, stick on vinyl lettering, paper clips, wrapping papers, wallpapers, tape measures, washers and safety pins. I enjoy thinking of new uses for materials, new ways of looking at objects we use every day and exploring different materials for each project.
